Bruins Blank Ferrum in Victory

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Carolina University Men's Soccer Team hosted Ferrum College on Saturday, September 11th. The Panthers entered the match in search of a win as they started the season 0-4. The Bruins stood at 2-1, and were looking to make this their third win in a row. It took a little while for each team to get into a flow, but it was CU that found their groove first. In the 19th minute the Bruins struck a beautiful goal from deep and took the 1-0 lead. This would remain the score entering halftime. In the second half, Carolina University had some opportunities to extend the lead, but all of their shots were sent away. The Panthers then developed some steam and almost tied the game late, but the CU defense held up to secure the 1-0 victory.

The lone goal and game winner was scored by Francisco Tapia (2) at 18:56. Tapia was assisted by Robin Salge who was excellent in his first start of the season. Additionally, Luke Spillane-Davis kept the pressure all night putting 4 of his 7 shots on goal. In the net, Jack Nicholson made his debut and had 3 saves as a part of this shut-out. Coach Golding was very proud of the way his team stepped up and secured the win despite being short handed. The depth of the Bruins will certainly be an asset moving forward.

The Bruins now move to 3-1 on the season and will travel to Rocky Mount, NC to play at North Carolina Wesleyan College (0-3-1) on Wednesday, September 15th.
