Women's Volleyball Earns Come Back Victory

LAURINBURG, NC -- Carolina University Women's Volleyball played St. Andrews University in the final match of the day at Harris Court on Saturday, September 25th. The Bruins and Knights had each lossed matches to the Truett McConnell Bears earlier in the day and were eager for victories to finish the weekend. St. Andrews wasted no time as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-16. Carolina University countered with an equally dominant performance as they won the second set 25-14. The Bruins then carried that momentum to take the third set and the 2-1 lead. However, the Knights would not go down easy and pushed CU in the fourth. Ultimately, Carolina University would prevail 25-21 and win the match by a final count of 3-1.

The Bruins were led by setter, Nicole Laezza. Laezza posted a match-high and career best 42 assists to propel the CU offense to victory. Destinee Hardamon had a match-high 16 kills, but was not alone. Sarah Pickett had 11 kills and Chiara Mottola had 10 kills while hitting .381 which was the best of any player with moe than 2 attempts. Carolina University's defense featured 3 players with double-digit digs. Hardamon, Regan Adams, and Pickett each had 17, 16, and 10 digs respectively.

Carolina University split the Tri-Match and now sits at 5-5 on the season. The Bruins will next take the court at home against Guilford College on Friday, October 1st. This match will be played at 7:00PM in the Williams Gymnasium on the campus of Carolina University. The Bruins are encouraging everyone to wear pink in honor of Cancer Awareness. Spectators are welcome at the match and a LiveStream will be provided on cubruins.com.
