GREENSBORO, NC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer traveled to play at Greensboro College on Saturday, September 25th. The Pride struck first with a goal at the 5:35 mark. The Bruins had to battle back, but were able to even the score 1-1 in the 34th minute. That goal sparked some fireworks as each team scored again in the next 10 minutes. Greensboro and CU entered the half tied at 2-2. The first half indicated that this would be an offensive battle, but the defenses really stepped up in the second half. Neither team was able to generate any goals, so fans were rewarded with some free soccer as this game headed to overtime. Unfortunately for the Bruins, The Pride ended the game with a goal just 74 seconds into overtime. A valiant effort fell just short as Carolina University lost 2-3 after a Greensboro Golden Goal at the 91:14 mark.Â
For the Bruins,
Mario Salinas (2) scored at 33:14 and was assisted by
Luke Spillane-Davis (2).
Benjamin Fortuin (3) found the back of the net at 43:52. Fortuin now leads the Bruins in goals scored and total points on the young season.
Jeremiah Gibbs was in the goal for the Bruins and did have 3 saves on the night.
Carolina University Men's Soccer is now 4-4 on the season. The Bruins will next host Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday, September 30th. The Warriors are 1-5 on the season, but present a very good NCAA DII opponent and participate in the Conference Carolinas. Come out to BB&T Soccer Park to support CU for the 6:00PM kick-off!
