Women's Soccer Comes Up Short at Guilford

GREENSBORO, NC -- Carolina University Women's Soccer played an afternoon match at Guilford College on Saturday, September 18th. The Bruins entered the match following a home win against Toccoa Falls, while the Quakers were a strong 4-1 prior to kick-off. Guilford was very aggressive from the beginning, but CU was able to match the energy. The Quakers scored in the 19th minute, but the Bruins answered right back in the 25th. The two teams went in to halftime tied at 1-1. The offensive firepower only heated up in the second half. The two teams combined for 27 second-half shots. Guilford was able to convert on a couple more tries than Carolina University. The Quakers would go on to win by a final score of 4-2.

The Bruins had goals scored by Cameron Dubuc and Natasha Mariam. Dubuc scored her 2nd goal of the season in the 25th minute and Mariam found the back of the net for the 4th time in the 75th minute. Defensively, Savannah Placie was excellent and had a huge impact, including 2 goal saving plays. Jamison Calhoun was in the goal for the full 90 and had 3 saves for CU.

Carolina University Women's Soccer is now 1-5 and will next play Salem College on Wednesday, September 22nd. The Spirits are just down the street in Winston-Salem so the 4:00PM kick-off will be a great chance to catch the Bruins in action at a "road game".
