Late Rally Vaults Women's Soccer to Victory

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Women's Soccer faced-off against Salem College on Wednesday, September 22nd. The Salem Spirits served as the Home Team, but the game was played at the Bruins' home facility, BB&T Soccer Park, due to field conditions. This cross town rivalry did not disappoint those that were attendance, and some weather delays only strengthened the suspense. Salem College dominated possession early and vastly outpaced CU for shots in the first half. The Bruin defense remained solid, but the Spirits were able to finally break-through and score a goal just before halftime to hold a 1-0 lead. Carolina University was able to find some offense in the second half and applied some pressure of their own. In the 73rd minute, the Bruins were able to get their equalizer, courtesy of Alondra Castellon Ramon, and tie the game at 1-1. The game really tightened up and each team did everything they could, but 90 minutes would not be enough to decide this one. The Bruins and Spirits gave their fans some bonus soccer at BB&T! Carolina University thrived under the pressure and scored the Golden Goal at 91:32 to take the 2-1 lead and win the game.

The Bruins were led by Cameron Dubuc, who had a brilliant performance on the wing. Dubuc assisted on the game tying goal, and scored the Game Winner. She also was a consistent threat all night, putting 3 of her 4 shots on goal. Dubuc has been on a tear lately and has scored a goal in 3 consecutive games, including 2 GW's. Alondra Castellon Ramon's goal at 72:13 was her 1st goal of the season. Mary Jester earned her 1st assist of the season as she led Dubuc to the GW in overtime. This offensive excellence should not overshadow the career-day by Goalkeeper Zuyerith Ventura. Ventura played the entire 91:32, faced 29 shots, including 15 shots on goal, and earned 14 saves (all of which are career-highs).

Carolina University moves to 2-5 on the season and will be immediately tested again. The Bruins will host the #3 team in NCCAA DII, Grace Christian University, on Thursday, September 23rd. The Tigers are 4-3, but have a goal differential of +13 over the last 4 games in which they have gone 3-1. Your CU Bruins are excited for the challenge and this match can be watched in-person at BB&T Soccer Park at 12:00pm (noon ET), seen via LiveStream on cubruins.com, or followed through LiveStats at cubruins.com.
