Men's Soccer Battles Against Randolph

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Bruins Men's Soccer Team hosted undefeated Randolph College on Saturday, September 18th. Carolina University was eager for the chance to play another quality opponent, and the energy at BB&T Soccer Park had a post-season feel despite the late summer temperature. The Wildcats and Bruins got after it from the start and each side played aggressively and applied a lot of pressure on their opponents. This strategy paid off as CU took the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Randolph was able to respond and tie the game at 1-1 by halftime. The intensity only increased as the game went on and each side had some opportunities to score. However, it was the Wildcats that were able to score the go-ahead goal at the 77:03 mark and break the tie. The Bruins did everything they could, but couldn't find the back of the net in time. Carolina University would fall in this highly competitive game by a final score of 1-2.

The Bruins' goal was scored by Govanni Mayas (1) and assisted by Benjamin Fortuin. Mario Salinas did provide a spark off the bench with 3 shots and 1 SOG despite being a reserve. Jeremiah Gibbs was back in the goal for the Bruins and he turned away several shots. Defensively, Robin Salge was excellent and provided a huge presence on that side of the field.

Carolina University now sits at 3-3 on the season and will look to get back above .500 with 3 games this week. The Bruins will play at Johnson & Wales in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, September 23rd. CU will then return home to host Grace Christian University as a part of a double-header with Women's Soccer on Thursday, September 23rd. The Bruins will close out the week with a game in Greensboro at Greensboro College with a 4:00PM Saturday afternoon kick-off.
