Women's Volleyball Falls in Heartbreaker

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University hosted Pfeiffer University for the final match of their season trilogy on Thursday, September 16th. The Falcons hosted the previous two meetings as a part of tri-matches and the Bruins were able to split on the road. This game was intense from start to finish as Bruin Nation showed up in full support of the Volleyball Home Opener. The Williams gymnasium was rocking, but that didn't deter Pfeiffer. The Falcons kept in step with the Bruins and held a narrow lead early in the first set. The home crowd provided some energy, and it fueled the Bruins to rally back and take the first set by a final score of 25-21. The comeback didn't deter Pfeiffer as they came right back and stole the second set 25-14. The third set opened with a lot of back and forth, but the Bruins were able to capitalize at the net. CU used a formidable front row to beat down Pfeiffer and take the 2-1 lead. Again, the Falcons responded and pushed the Bruins back to even the match at 2-2.

It was fitting that this highly contested season series came down to a fifth and final set. These two teams knew each other very well and had few secrets left. Pfeiffer rode their fourth set momentum and jumped out to an early 6-1 lead that forced a CU timeout. The Bruins got a big kill out of the break, and tried to claw their way back. However, the Falcons were able to stay one step ahead and took the fifth set by a final score of 15-10. The Falcons close out this game by a final score of 3-2 and take the season series over the Bruins.

Carolina University did have some big time performances in this game. Kamra King had a season-high 43 assists and 3 blocks. Destinee Hardamon continued to lead the attack with 17 kills, 2 aces, and she had 12 digs. Jill Jones was at the night all night with 3 blocks and 7 kills. Chiara Mottola and Zianna Shinhoster each reached double figures in kills with 11 and 10 respectively.

The Bruins are now 4-2, but have a chance to rebound quickly with a match at Toccoa Falls tomorrow, Friday, September 16th. Carolina University is 1-0 in NCCAA play and will look to stay unblemished against the Eagles. LiveStream and othe statistical information can be found on cubruins.com
