WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Carolina University Women's Soccer Team hosted NCCAA opponent, Toccoa Falls College, on Wednesday, September 15th. The Bruins were in such of a much needed victory and playing on their home field seemed to be the boost they needed.
Cameron Dubuc got some space early and gained the 1-0 advantage for CU at the 4:36 mark. The Bruins continued to play with pace and put the pressure on TFC, but nothing else materialized in the first half. However, that hard work paid off as the Bruins scored immediately following the break in the 47th minute and again in the 53rd minute. Carolina University sealed the victory with an incredible free kick goal by
Aaliyah Rubio. This beautiful shot curved right to left and fit perfectly in the backside upper 90 to secure the 4-0 win for the Bruins.
Carolina University looked good on offense and truly played as a team. Four different Bruins were able to find the back of the net in this match;
Cameron Dubuc (1),
Alondra Castellon Ramon (1),
Sidney Smith (1), and
Aaliyah Rubio (2). In goal,
Jamison Calhoun and Zee Ventura combined for the shut-out. Calhoun had a season-high 6 saves all in the first half.Â
The Bruins are now 1-4 and got their first win of the season after facing a very difficult stretch on the road. Carolina University will now stay local and play the next 5 games within the Piedmont Triad or at Home. Next up is a road match at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, September 18th. The Quakers just suffered their first loss of the season and are 4-1. The Kick-Off for this game is set for 1:00PM and it will have a LiveStream and LiveStats for those unable to attend in person.Â
