Bruins Take Care of Business

EASLEY, SC -- Carolina University Baseball played #9 seed Alice Lloyd College at the NCCAA World Series on May 22nd. The Bruins needed a win against the Eagles to jump start their post season run and got just that in the morning game. The Bruins scored 2 in the second inning off a bases loaded single. The Eagles got 1 back in the top of the third to bring the score to 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning CU exploded for 5 runs, thanks to 2 homeruns. The Bruins would use that to coast to a 7-1 victory and a 1-1 record in Pool Play.

Kaleb Whitaker started on the mound and earned the post-season victory after 5 and 1/3 innings of work. Whitaker struck out 4 and gave up just 1 run on 2 hits. Hunter Rhineberger came on in relief and pitched 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings for the Bruins. Logan Conklin continued his strong World Series performance by going 2-3 with a homerun and 3 RBI's. Bryan Deegan also went yard for the Bruins as a part of his 2-4 and 2 RBI performance. Brendan Carroll stepped up for CU and went 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Josh Kent and Grant Harris were also important for the Bruin offense as they were on base all day. Kent was 3-4 with 2 doubles and Harris was 1-1 and drew 2 walks to reach base in all 3 of his plate appearances.

Carolina University will now play #5 Ecclesia College in the second game of the day, which will be crucial in the Pool Play format.
