EASLEY, SC -- Bruins Baseball played against #5 seed Ecclesia College in Pool Play at the NCCAA World Series on May 22nd. The Bruins entered game 3 of Pool Play at 1-1 and the Royals entered at 0-2. Carolina University got off to a fast start and scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning and added 2 more in the top of the third. However, Ecclesia was able to keep pace by scoring 1 in the first and 3 in the third. The Bruins really found their groove in the top of the fifth. CU entered the inning with a 6-4 lead and added 5 more runs. The Royals would scored again, but it wouldn't be enough as the Bruins would go on to win 11-5.
Kobe Vanbogart started on the mound for CU and pitched 2 and 2/3 innings.
Lucas Shannon came on and earned the win while pitching 3 and 1/3 innings. Shannon only allowed 1 hit, 2 walks, and 1 un-earned run was scored during his time on the mound.
Cade Fletcher pitched the final inning for the Bruins. The offense was rolling for CU led by
Grant Harris. Harris went an incredible 3-4 with 5 RBI's, a homerun, and scored twice.
Bryan Deegan had another strong performance as he went 3-3 with 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 walk, and scored twice.
John Giboyeaux and
Logan Conklin were also crucial as they each reached base 3 times and had a double.
Brendan Carroll and
Dawson Davis also went 2-3 at the plate.Â
Carolina University now moves to 2-1 in Pool Play and has a win or go home game set with Judson University on Monday, May 24th. Each team will enter the game at 2-1 in Pool Play so the winner will earn a birth to the Semi-Final round of the NCCAA World Series.Â
