Baseball Comes Up at Regionals

TOCCOA FALLS, GA -- Bruins Baseball played the #4 seed Trinity Baptist Eagles in their second game of the NCCAA South Region Tournament. The #2 seed Bruins are looking for an opportunity to play their way back to the Championship game through the double-elimination format after losing in game 1 to host school, #3 seed, Toccoa Falls College. Trinity Baptist fell in their first game against #1 seed Columbia International University so this game set up a true win or go home situation. The Eagles struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. Carolina University again found their offense in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored 2 to take the 2-1 lead. Trinity Baptist followed that with 3 runs in the top of the fifth to regain a 4-2 lead. The Bruins cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles immediately pushed it back to 5-3 in the next inning. The Bruins just couldn't get anyone to cross home in the final two innings and fell by a final score of 3-5.

Kaleb Whitaker started on the mound for the Bruins and went 4 and 1/3 innings. Whitaker allowed 3 runs and had 3 strikeouts. Charlee Edwards came on in relief and had 2 strikeouts. Offense was tough to come by in this game, but Grant Harris came through for the Bruins. The freshman led the way going 2-3 at the plate with a double that resulted in 2 RBI's. Logan Conklin earned the other RBI for the Bruins as he drew 2 walks and scored a run. Josh Kent stayed solid and went 2-4 at the plate.

After falling out of the Regional Tournament, Carolina University will have to wait and see about an At-Large bid to the NCCAA World Series. The Bruins have positioned themselves well with a winning regular-season and a strong power rating. Hopefully, CU Baseball will have another opportunity to take the field this season!
