Baseball Falls in Game 1

TOCCOA FALLS, GA -- Carolina University Baseball played Toccoa Falls College in the first game of the NCCAA South Region Tournament. The Bruins entered the game as the #2 seed in the 4 team tournament. The Eagles were the #3 seed and the host school for the tournament. As the higher seed, Carolina University was acting home team for this game. This game was slow to develop as neither team scored a run through the third inning. The Eagles put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth, and the flood gates opened after that. The Bruins exploded for 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth and held an 8-1 lead. Toccoa Falls responded with 5+ runs in each of the final three innings. Carolina University was unable to maintain the offensive momentum and fell by a final score of 8-17.

Jacob Ladley started on the mound for Carolina University and pitched 4 innings with 2 strikeouts and 6 earned runs allowed. Hunter Rhineberg and Jamie Winecoff came out of the bullpen for the Bruins. John Giboyeaux led the way offensively for the Bruins going 2-3 with a double and 1 RBI. Bryan Deegan, Drew Martin, Josh Kent, and Grant Harris all went 2-4 at the plate and scored a run. Deegan also had a double, and Martin also added 2 RBIs to his stat line.

The Bruins will now face #4 Trinity Baptist and attempt to play their way back to the Championship Game through this double-elimination tournament format.
