Softball Wins First Regional Title in Program History

JACKSONVILLE, NC -- Carolina University Bruin Softball played Trinity Baptist College in Game 2 of the NCCAA South Region Tournament. The Bruins hold a 1-0 series lead on the Eagles and need one more win to clinch the 3-game series. The Bruins played as the guest in this game, and it was apparent early that runs would be hard to come by. CU finally broke the ice in the top of the third inning as they scored 2 runs to take the lead. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the fifth and cut the lead to 2-1. Carolina University came right back with a run in the top of the sixth to take the 3-1 lead. The Bruin pitching staff would close out this game and clinch the first South Region Title and NCCAA National Tournament birth in Program history.

Lyric Ryan started on the mound for the Bruins and earned the win. Ryan pitched 5 innings and had 4 strikeouts with just one run allowed. Danielle Brooks came on in relief and secured the save allowing just 1 hit in 2 innings. Ryan and Brooks each got a hit at the plate and Ryan did score a run. Offense was hard to come by in this game, but the Bruins manufactured enough to get the win. Missy Smith had a strong performance going 2-4, scored a run, and stole a base. Kalea Bolch did a nice job in the clean-up role as she went 2-4 with an RBI. Kayli Cook also earned an RBI and went 1-4 at the plate.

With this win, the Bruins have won the best of 3 series for the NCCAA South Region Title and will not need to play the "If Necessary" game on Saturday. This is the first Regional Tournament Title in Carolina University Softball history and will qualify them for the NCCAA National Tournament for the first time ever.
