DUNCAN, SC -- Carolina University Softball was on the road for a double-header against Converse College. The Bruins haven't been able to play in over a week and were eager to get back on the field. That excitement was evident early when CU ran the bases hard and scored a run in the second inning. The Valkyries then tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the fifth,
Maggie Smith hit a double that scored
Kayli Cook and gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead. However, Converse College answered an inning later as they tied the game 2-2 going into the seventh. In the top of the seventh, the middle of the order delivered for CU as
Kalea Bolch drove in
Maggie Smith for the go-ahead run.
Danielle Brooks and company took care of business in the bottom of the seventh to earn this 3-2 victory.
Danielle Brooks pitched a complete game and earned the win over this NCAA II opponent. Brooks gave up just 5 hits and struck-out 3 batters. She also went 1-3 with 1 RBI at the plate.
Maggie Smith led the way on offense going 3-4 with 1 RBI and scored the winning run.
Kalea Bolch came up clutch in her 2-4 performance as she scored the opening run and had the game-winning RBI in the seventh.Â
After this big win, the Bruins sit at 7-12. They will have
Lyric Ryan take the mound in the second game of this double-header against NCAA DII Converse College.
