Bruins Sweep NCAA DII Opponent

DUNCAN, SC -- Carolina University played at NCAA DII Converse College for the second game of a double-header on Saturday, April 3rd. The Bruins beat the Valkyries in the first game 3-2 and the second game was just as competitive. Carolina University was on the board first as Missy Smith stole home to get the 1-0 lead. The Bruins extended the lead in the fourth inning as Kalea Bolch hit a solo homerun and Timmya Williams beat the pick-off to go up 3-0. That lead would prove to be enough as the Bruins went on to win 4-1.

Carolina University's sweep of Converse College was extremely important to the program. This was only the second time in school history that the Softball Team beat an NCAA DII opponent and first ever sweep at that level. After reflecting on the win Coach Bass said, "These wins are huge for our program for a couple of reasons. First, I'm so proud of these girls because they really come out and compete and wins like this show how hard they work. Second, this moment really sets the stage for what is to come in this program. This current team has truly laid a foundation and we believe that legacy will carry on to the very talented group that is committed to being Bruins."

Lyric Ryan was incredible on the mound for the Bruins. Ryan pitched a complete game for the win and gave up just 4 hits and 1 run across those 7 innings. She also went 2-4 at the plate. Kalea Bolch led the way on offense going 2-4 and hit her 2nd homerun of the season. Timmya Williams also came alive for CU going 3-4, stole 2 bases, and scored a run.

Carolina University is now 8-12 on the season and poised to make a run toward the regional tournament. The Bruins will next face NAIA opponent Milligan College on Wednesday, April 7th for a double-header in Milligan, TN.
