ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Carolina University Baseball played against the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs as a part of a 3 game series on Friday, April 9th. The Bruins won game one on Thursday night and opened up a double-header on Friday. Despite big offense the night before, this game was much lower scoring. The Bruins didn't score a run until the fifth inning and by then they were already down 4. Carolina University tried to rally late with 2 runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, but it was too little too late. The Mustangs would take this game by a final score of 5-4.
Kaleb Whitaker pitched the entire game for CU and struck out 8 in his 6 innings of work. Whitaker also allowed just 3 earned runs, but was unfortunately tagged with the loss.
Josh Kent had a strong offensive performance and did a little of everything. Kent officially went 1-1 at the plate, but also amassed 1 walk, 1 HBP, and 1 sacrifice fly. He also scored 1 run and had 1 RBI.
Bryan Deegan had a good day at lead-off going 2-4 with a double.
Grant Harris had the only other extra base hit for the Bruins as he went 2-2 with a double and 1 RBI.
The Bruins will look to split the day and win the series with a win in game 3 against the MACU Mustangs.
