Bruins Win 4th in a Row

BLUEFIELD, WV -- The Carolina University Bruins played the second game of a softball double-header at Bluefield State College on Sunday, April 18th. The Bruins beat the Big Blue 12-1 in the first game, and a win in game 2 would give the Bruins their longest win streak of the season. Carolina University again started strong as they scored 3 runs in the top of the first. Bluefield State College bounced back in the bottom of the second and tied the game at 3-3. The Bruins quickly retook the lead by scoring a run in the top of the third inning. CU struck again in the top of the fifth and sixth innings as they took a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. The Big Blue scored a couple of runs late, but it wasn't enough as Carolina University went on to win the game 8-5.

Danielle Brooks started on the mound for the Bruins, but Lyric Ryan came in early and earned the win. Brooks posted 3 strikeouts in 1 and 1/3 innings. Ryan pitched 5 and 2/3 innings and collected 7 strikeouts while allowing just 2 runs. Jade Durr stayed hot at the plate in this game. Durr went 3-4 with a double, a triple, and 1 RBI. Kalea Bolch also had a stand out performance going 3-4 with a triple, 1 RBI, and scored 3 times. Missy Smith was great batting from the cleanup position. Smith went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBIs.

The Bruin Softball Team has now won a season best 4 in a row and sits at 12-14. Carolina University will close out the regular season at home against Johnson University on Tuesday, April 20th.
