WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Softball hosted the Johnson University Royals for a double-header on Tuesday, April 20th. The Bruins honored seniors
Missy Smith,
Natalie Jones, and
Kayli Cook prior to the game and the team's energy was high. As a result, CU didn't take long to put runs on the board and had a 5-1 lead after two. Johnson University challenged in the third as they tied the game at 5, The Bruins quickly responded with 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up for good. Carolina University added some insurance runs in the fourth inning and ended this game early with a winning score of 14-6.
Danielle Brooks was on the mound for the Bruins and looked sharp in her 5 innings of work. Brooks struck out 3 and only gave up 3 earned runs and 5 hits as she moved to 7-4 on the season. Offensively, the bats were hot for the Bruins and in storybook fashion they were led by their seniors.
Missy Smith was a perfect 4-4 at the plate including 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.
Kayli Cook and
Natalie Jones had a lot to celebrate as well. They each crossed home plate 3 times and had a hit.Â
Maggie Smith was also fantastic as she went 3-4 with a double, 5 RBIs, and scored 3 times.
Carolina University is now 13-14 on the season and would like to close out the regular season with a win against the Royals in game 2.
