BLUEFIELD, WV -- Carolina University Softball was on the road for a double-header at Bluefield State College on Sunday, April 18th. The Bruins wasted no time in getting started as they scored 4 runs in the first inning. The Big Blue responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The next couple of innings were quiet, but CU exploded in the top of the fifth. The Bruins scored 8 runs in the inning capped off by a Maggie Smith 3-run homerun. Carolina University's 12-1 lead was enough to get them the victory and end this game after five innings.

Danielle Brooks was on the mound for the Bruins and was excellent across all five innings. Brooks struck out 4 batters, walked just 1, and gave up 0 earned runs. Offensively, the heart of the order was incredible for the Bruins. Maggie Smith led the way going 2-3 with 3 RBI's and her second homerun of the season. Jade Durr stepped up in a big way this game and went 2-4 with a double and 4 RBIs. Missy Smith and Kalea Bolch had strong performances as well. Smith and Bolch each had 2 hits and a double.

Carolina University will look to keep the bats going in game 2 from Bluefield.
