WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University hosted Columbia International University for the second game of a baseball double-header. The Rams won the first game and some of the momentum carried over. Columbia International started the game a 3-run first inning. However, the Bruins answered back with a run of their own. The Rams then put up 5 more runs in the second. Carolina University responded with a 2-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-3. The Bruins defense buckled down and only allowed 4 more runs the rest of the way. Unfortunately, CU couldn't manufacture enough runs to make up the defecit. CIU would go on to win by a final score fo 12-5.
Jamie Winecoff started on the mound for the Bruins and 3 other pitchers were used in relief.
Jacob Ladley was the most efficient pitcher on the day. Ladley pitched just 1 inning, didn't allow a hit, and stuck-out 2 batters. Offensively,
Bryan Deegan led the way going 2-3 with 2 RBIs that came on a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the second. This was Deegan's first homerun of the season. Deegan has been hot as of late going 8-14 in the last 3 games.
Dino Tharp also hit his first homerun of the season today as a part of a 1-2 day at the plate. Tharp is 6-9 in his last 3 games and has reached base 2 more times on walks.
Josh Kent and John Gibeoyeaux each went 2-3.
Taylor Green got his first hit of the season when he singled to center field as a pitch hitter in this one.Â
After the day, Carolina University moves to 11-13 on the season. The Bruins have a final 3-game series with Johnson University at home. CU will host a double-header on Friday, April 16th at Truist Stadium and the third game will be played on Saturday, April 17th at Mando Field. The Bruins and the Royals have not played this season, but it should be a very good matchup of NCCAA oppponents.
