MONTREAT, NC -- Carolina University Softball traveled to play a double-header at Montreat College on Monday, April 12th. The Bruins and Cavaliers split a double-header early in the season and these games lived up to the competitive hype. What started off as a pitcher's duel became a shoot-out in the fifth inning. The Bruins had a 1-0 lead entering the top of the fifth and scored 4 runs to go up 5-0. CU would extend that lead to 8-0 in the top of the sixth, but the Cavaliers wouldn't go down without a fight. Montreat answered with 2 runs of their own. Cavaliers tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bruins shut the door. Carolina University went on to win the game 8-5.
Danielle Brooks pitched a complete game to earn this victory. She delivered 3 strikeouts against just 3 walks.
Kayli Cook led the way at the plate going 3-4 with a double, 2 RBIs, and scored a run.
Lyric Ryan also went 1-2 with an RBI, drew a walk, and scored a run.
Jade Durr also delivered from the DP spot going 1-1 with an RBI, scored a run, and converted her sacrifice bunt.
Carolina University hopes to keep the bats hot in game 2 in Montreat.
