Baseball Hangs On for High Scoring Win

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Carolina University opened a 3-game series at Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Thursday, April 8th. The Bruins swept the Mustangs in a double-header earlier this season and looked for similar results this time. The game started off all Bruins as they scored 5 runs in the first and 4 runs in the third to open up a 9-1 lead. However, the Mustangs rallied and found life in the bottom of the third. MACU scored 10 runs to take an 11-9 lead. The offense continued for each time and the game was tied at 12 entering the top of the 7th. A hit with runners in scoring position scored 2 for the Bruins and they took a 14-12 lead into the seventh inning stretch. Carolina University would score an insurance run in the eighth and go on to win this thriller 15-13.

Jacob Ladley started on the mound, but the Bruins deployed 5 pitchers in this one. Hunter Rhineberger looked good in his 2 and 2/3 innings as he struck out 4, walked 1, and gave up just 2 runs. Jamie Winecoff pitched 2 innings and struck out 3 while giving up just 1 run. Charlee Edwards closed the game out and allowed just 1 hit in the bottom of the ninth. John Giboyeaux was excellent in this game as he went 4-6 with 4 RBIs including the 2 that ended up being the winning runs. Bryan Deegan also went 4-6, scored 3 times and had 1 RBI. Drew Martin, Josh Kent, Cade Fletcher, and Dino Tharp all had nice nights at the plate and each had multiple hits. Martin, Kent, and Fletcher each had a double. Martin and Tharp scored 3 times each. Kent and Fletcher had 2 RBIs a piece.

The Bruins are now 10-10 and look to keep the bats going in a double-header at MACU on Friday.
