WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Softball hosted Alice Lloyd College for a double-header on Saturday, February 27th. The Bruins looked great start to finish in the first game. The Bruins started off with a bang going up 3-0 in the first inning. Chelsea Skipper led the way with a 2-run homerun. The pitching and defense took over from there. Danielle Brooks was on the mound and was excellent. Between her pitching and the Bruins defense The Eagles were unable to manufacture any offense. Carolina University added a security run in the bottom of the sixth, but it would prove to be unnecessary. Maggie Smith came on and closed the game out in the top of the seventh giving the Bruins a 4-0 victory.

Danielle Brooks earned the shut-out win for the Bruins. She pitched 6 innings and gave up just 3 hits and 2 walks. Brooks earned 2 strikeouts and rarely had runners on base. Maggie Smith came in as relief earning the save as she gave up just 1 hit in her only inning of work. Offensively, Chelsea Skipper went 1-3 with 3 RBIs. She also hit her first homerun as a Bruin. Kayli Cook went 1-3 and scored. Missy Smith was able to score twice and earned an RBI. 

The Bruins honored the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes and their families after this game. All of those future Bruins were in attendance and enjoyed watching CU earn the 4-0 victory. The Bruins moved to 2-3 after this win and will look to get to .500 in the second game of the day.
