WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Bruins Softball hosted Alice Lloyd College for the second game of a double-header on Saturday, February 27th. The Bruins won the first game 4-0 and hoped to get another win. However, the Eagles offense came alive early and scored 3 in the first inning. Carolina University was able to answer with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Alice Lloyd continued to find ways to score and was up 5-2 after the third. The Bruins defense settled in and held ALC for 3 scoreless innings, but couldn't chip away at the lead. The Eagles extended the lead with 2 runs in the seventh. CU tried to rally and scored in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Alice Lloyd went on to win 7-3.
Chelsea Skipper pitched a complete game for the Bruins and struck out 8 across those 7 innings. She gave up just 5 earned runs, but overall the Eagles scored 7. Skipper tried to help out her cause at the plate by going 2-2 with 2 walks and an RBI.
Missy Smith went 1-3 with a double and her sacrifice fly brought in 1 RBI.
Maggie Smith also went 1-1 and drew 3 walks.Â
The Bruins moved to 2-4 after the split with Alice Lloyd College. Carolina University will next play a double-header against North Carolina Wesleyan College on Thursday, March 4th. The Bruins will host the Battling Bishops who open up their season on Sunday, February 28th.Â
