COLUMBIA, SC -- Carolina University faced-off against Columbia International University for the second game of a double-header on Thursday, February 25th. Chelsea Skipper took the mound for the Bruins and kept the Rams quiet in the early going. Carolina University was able to manufacture 3 runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Rams came alive in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game at 3-3. CIU would then take the lead in the bottom of the fifth and extend it in the sixth. The Rams held a 6-3 lead going into the seventh. The Bruins got the tying run to the plate, but the Rams held on for a 6-3 victory.
Skipper pitched 5 and 2/3 innings for the Bruins and struck out 7 while only giving up 2 walks.
Kayli Cook went 2-4 at the plate with a double and scored.
Maggie Smith went 1-4 and her double earned 2 RBIs.
Destiny Poole made the most of her at-bat by going 1-1.
Timmya Williams went 1-3 with 1 RBI and scored a run. The Carolina University coaching staff would've liked wins, but found a lot of positives in today's outings. Coach Bass specifically cited the competitive spirit and continued improvement by her team.Â
The Bruins moved to 1-3 on the season and will host Alice Lloyd College for a double-header on Saturday, February 27th. Carolina University will also honor their 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes between games.
