Softball Earns Big Road Victory

ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- Carolina University played at North Carolina Wesleyan College in the second game of a double-header on Wednesday, March 24th. The Bruins fell short in the first game, but felt they could build on the performance. Carolina University wasted no time putting runs on the board as they scored 3 in the first inning and 4 in the second inning. That 7-0 lead gave the Bruins all the confidence they needed to close this game out. Carolina University went on to beat NC Wesleyan 7-2 and earn their first win against the Battling Bishops in 4 tries.

After the game, Head Coach Amber Bass was very impressed with her team. "I think this win shows the grit and determination of our group this year. NC Wesleyan is a really good team and being able to split with them today shows how much better we have gotten and that our girls don't give up. I'm really proud of this team!"

Lyric Ryan pitched the complete game for the Bruins in this one. Ryan earned the win and had 1 strike-out while giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs. Ryan also helped her own cause by going 1-2 at the plate. Kayli Cook led the way again for the Bruins. Cook was 3-4 with 1 RBI and scored twice. Cook is now batting .521 on the year and has reached base in every single game she's played this season. Missy Smith was great batting clean-up today, going 2-4 with 3 RBIs. Natalie Jones also had a good day at the plate going 2-4 and scoring 1 run.

Carolina University Softball is now 6-12 on the season and will next play a double-header at Montreat College on Wednesday, March 31st. This is set to be a very competitive matchup as the Bruins and Cavaliers split a double-header to open the season.
