ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- Carolina University Softball was on the road at North Carolina Wesleyan College for a double-header. The Bruins hosted the Battling Bishops earlier this month and were unable to keep up dropping both games. The Bruins did a much better job in this one and kept the game within reach. CU held a 2-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning. However, the Bishops got hot in the bottom of the fourth and scored 6 runs. The Bruins tried to come back, but it wasn't enough and they dropped this one by a final score of 3-7.
Danielle Brooks started on the mound for the Bruins and struck out 5 across her 4+ innings. Brooks also went 2-3 at the plate.
Lyric Ryan came on in relief and struck out 2 while giving up just 2 hits. Offensively,
Kayli Cook had a strong day going 2-3 and scoring 1 run.
Kalea Bolch and
Jessi Gray each earned 1 RBI.
The Bruins will look to earn a split with North Carolina Wesleyan College in the second game of the day.
