BLUEFIELD, WV -- Carolina University Baseball traveled to play against Bluefield State College on Saturday, March 20th. The Bruins hosted the Big Blue for a double-header earlier this season and dropped both games. Carolina University was eager for another opportunity against this quality opponent. This ball game turned into an offensive exhibition very quickly and at least 1 run was scored in every inning except the seventh. The pivotal moment of the game came in the top of the sixth. The Bruins held a 7-6 lead, but knew they would need more runs to earn the win. CU responded with a 6-run sixth inning that propelled them to victory by a final score of 15-9.
Jacob Ladley started on the mound for the Bruins and would be credited for the win. The bullpen for the Bruins looked good in this one, especially
Hunter Rhineberger and
Charlee Edwards. Rhineberger came on in the seventh inning and struck out 3 of his 8 batters faced and never gave up a run. Edwards closed the game out and didn't allow a base runner in the bottom of the ninth. Offensively, the Bruins looked great with a total of 21 hits to score their 15 runs.
Dawson Davis led the way going 4-6 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.
Dino Tharp was great as a DH going 2-5 with 2 doubles, 1 walk, and 4 RBIs.
Matt Martir-Tullock reached base 5 times going 4-5 with an RBI, a walk, and 2 runs scored.
Logan Conklin was also on base all night and crossed home plate 4 times.
Carolina University moves to 7-9 on the season after this victory. The Bruins have now won 4 of their last 5 games and will next play at Montreat College on Tuesday, March 23rd.
