MONTREAT, NC -- Carolina University Baseball played at Montreat College on Tuesday, March 23rd. The Bruins have been winning with their bats lately, but would need more than that to take down the Cavaliers. Carolina University kept the offensive momentum going with 4 runs in the top of the first, but that would not be the trend in this game. The Cavaliers' pitcher and defense settled in and didn't allow another run. The Bruins pitching and defense were put to the test and would not disappoint. CU had a slight hiccup in the fourth inning where they gave up 2 runs, but were perfect outside of that. Carolina University would hang on to win this one by a final score of 4-2.
Lucas Shannon took the start and earned the win in this one. Shannon pitched 3 innings and struck out 5. Kobe Vanbogart,
Jacob Ladley, and
Charlee Edwards were all used in relief. That bullpen crew gave up a combined 2 hits and no runs while striking out 7. Edwards was on the mound last and earned the save. Offense was hard to come by in this one, but
John Giboyeaux came through for the Bruins going 2-4 and scored a run.
Grant Harris was good at the plate going 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
Matt Martir-Tullock kept up his incredible streak in this one. Tullock went 1-3, scored a run, and had an RBI. That makes 5 consecutive games with at least 1 RBI for Tullock who is also batting 0.524 over that same stretch.Â
Carolina University now improves to 8-9 and has an opportunity to get above .500 this weekend. The Bruins will travel to Georgia to play a 3 game series with NCCAA opponent Toccoa Falls College. The Bruins will play 1 game Friday night and double-header on Saturday afternoon.Â
