Bruins Fall to Averett

DANVILLE, VA -- Bruins Softball was on the road at Averett University for the second game of a double-header on Monday, March 15th. The Bruins were able to start off this game strong and scored 1 run in the first inning. Averett University came back with 1 run in the second inning and 3 runs in the third inning. The Bruins found themselves down 4-1 in the top of the fourth and responded. Carolina University was able to score 3 runs in the inning and tie the game at 4-4. The Bruins answered the call again in the top of the sixth when they were down 5-4 by scoring the tying run. Carolina University had Averett on the ropes in the bottom of the seventh. The game was tied at 5-5 and the Bruins were looking to force extra innings, but the Cougars found a way to score a run and walked off with the 6-5 victory.

Danielle Brooks was on the mound for the Bruins and pitched the entire game. Brooks only gave up 8 hits on the day and helped her own cause by going 1-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Timmya Williams had a good game going 1-3 at the plate, but scoring 2 of the Bruins' 5 runs. Natalie Jones and Jade Durr each earned 1 RBI for the Bruins while Lyric Ryan, Missy Smith, and Jessi Gray were each credited with a hit and scored a run.

After this double-header, Carolina University moves to 5-11 on the season. The Bruins will next play on Wednesday, March 24th in Rocky Mount, NC when they play a double-header against North Carolina Wesleyan College. Earlier this season, CU lost 2 games at home to the Battling Bishops and will try to even the season series on the road.
