Softball Wins Behind Record Breaking Performance

KNOXVILLE, TN -- Carolina University Softball traveled to Knoxville, TN to play Johnson University in a double-header on Monday, March 8th. Lyric Ryan took the mound for the Bruins in the first game and did not disappoint. Ryan was dealing and allowed the CU offense to go to work. The Bruins scored 1 run early, but found their groove in the fifth. Carolina University was able to score 4 runs in the fifth and all but put the game away. The Royals scored 1 run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shut-out. The Bruins won their second game in a row by a final score of 5-1. 

Lyric Ryan pitched her second consecutive complete game and earned another win. Ryan posted a career-high and Carolina University school record 12 strikeouts. Her pitching has given the Bruins a much needed boost over the last 2 games. Missy Smith stayed hot at the plate going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Jessi Gray also went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Kayli Cook went an incredible 3-4 for the Bruins and scored once. Maggie Smith was able to earn 1 RBI with a double. 

Carolina University will look to make it 3 wins in a row in the second game against the Royals this afternoon.
