KNOXVILLE, TN -- Carolina University Softball played the second game of a double-header against NCCAA opponent Johnson University on Monday, March 8th. The Bruins won the first game 5-1 and were able to keep the bats going in this one. The Bruins scored 1 to open the top of the first, but exploded in the second. CU was able to score 7 runs in the second inning including 4 runs on a
Kalea Bolch Grand Slam. The Royals answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the second and 2 more in the third, but it wasn't enough. Carolina University would score a couple of more runs to ice the game and win 11-6.
Danielle Brooks started for the Bruins and earned the win.
Maggie Smith and
Lyric Ryan came on in relief. Ryan was excellent in the first game on the mound and continued that work out of the bullpen in this game.
Kalea Bolch's Grand Slam headlined the Bruin offense for the day. This was Bolch's first homerun of the season and a part of her 2-5 and 4 RBI performance.
Kayli Cook was also excellent going 4-5 with a triple and 1 RBI. Cook leads the team in batting average at .529 and hits (18).Â
Lyric Ryan helped out at the plate batting 2-5 with 3 RBIs.
Destiny Poole also went 2-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. MIssy Smith continues to be on a tear for the Bruins. Smith went 3-4 on the day with a double and 1 RBI. After this game, Smith is batting .667 with 5 doubles and 8 RBIs in the last 5 games.Â
Carolina University has now won 3 games in a row to move to 5-7 on the season. They have a chance to get to .500 on Thursday, March 11th when they play a double-header at William Peace University in Raleigh, NC. The Bruins will play at 1:00PM and 3:00PM.
