BREVARD, NC -- Carolina University was on the road at Brevard College for a softball double-header on Saturday, March 6th. The Bruins got out of the gates quickly scoring a run in the top of the first. CU added to the lead with 3 more runs in the third and led 4-1 going into the fourth inning. A couple of untimely errors allowed Brevard to battle back and own a 9-4 lead after the sixth. The Bruins were able to score a run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback. Brevard would hold on to the 9-5 victory in the first game.Â
Danielle Brooks started for the Bruins and struck out 5 in her 4 innings of work. She was relieved by
Maggie Smith who only allowed 2 hits in her 2 innings pitched, but the Bruins gave up 4 runs including 2 unearned during that time.
Jessi Gray had a strong showing at the plate going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.
Missy Smith continued to hit well going 2-3 with a double, 1 RBI, and scoring twice.
