BREVARD, NC -- Carolina University Softball took on Brevard College for the second game of a double-head on Saturday, March 6th. The Bruins lost after holding an early lead in the first game, but didn't allow that to happen again. Carolina University scored 2 in the second inning and were determined to keep the lead. Brevard College was able to score a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bruins responded. CU answered with a run in the fifth and iced the game with 2 runs in the sixth. The Bruins would win the game by a final count of 6-1.
Lyric Ryan took the mound for the Bruins and was dominant. Ryan pitched a complete game giving up 1 run on just 5 hits while striking out 7. Ryan was also able to contribute to her own cause by earning an RBI and scoring a run herself.
Missy Smith was great again for the Bruins going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Smith has been red-hot batting .700 with 3 doubles, 1 homerun, and 5 RBIs over the last 3 games.
Kayli Cook and
Jessi Gray went 2-4 for CU. Cook also had 2 RBIs and Gray stole a base.Â
The Bruins were in need of that win and moved to 3-7 on the season. Carolina University will travel to Knoxville, TN on Monday for an NCCAA showdown with Johnson University (TN). The schools will play an afternoon double-header.
