WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Carolina University Baseball Team hosted Mid-Atlantic Christian University for a double-header on Saturday, February 6th. The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Matt Martir-Tullock blasted a 2-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning.
Jacob Ladley and the defense were solid, but the Mustangs could not be held down forever, MACU scored 1 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, and another 1 in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning. With their backs against the wall, the Bruins were able to manufacture 2 runs and force extra innings with the score tied at 4. Each team threatened but no runs were scored until
John Giboyeaux came up to bat in the bottom of the eleventh. Giboyeaux got a hold of a ball and sent it well over the left-center wall to clinch the first game for the Bruins.
Jacob Ladley (1-1) earned the win after 4 and 2/3 innings of work. Ladley gave up 3 runs and had 4 strikeouts. Tullock and Giboyeaux each hit their first homeruns of the season to help lead the Bruins offense. They were aided by
Dino Tharp who went 2-4 with a run scored and Kent Greenwood who went 1-3 with an RBI.
The Bruins and Mustangs will play another 7 inning game today and are scheduled for 2 more games on Sunday.
