WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Women's Basketball hosted Voorhees College on Thursday, February 4th. The Bruins struggled to find a groove early, but a late first quarter 3 by
Caliyana White gave CU a 21-17 lead at the break and a much needed energy boost. The Lady Bruins played with much more intensity in the 2nd quarter, but couldn't quite pull away. Every time CU would try to make a run, the Tigers had an answer. The Bruins took a 37-34 lead into halftime. The third quarter was extremely exciting and saw several lead changes as the Bruins and Tigers each tried to gain an edge. The back and forth quarter ended with the Tigers taking a 53-52 lead into the fourth. Voorhees momentum continued as they built a 9-point lead with just 1:44 left. The Bruins did not quit and after a layup by
Malayah Montgomery the lead was down 7. The Bruins got the ball back and
Janelle Cook came off the bench to drain a 3 and cut the lead to 4. After a CU foul, the Tigers made 1 of 2 free throws and were up 5 with 25 seconds to play. Again, Cook delivered with a 3-pointer and cut the lead to just 2. The Bruins were able to regain possession down 3 with 7 seconds left, but the shot at the buzzer would not go down.
