WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Women's Basketball hosted Johnson University (TN) on Friday, February 19th. The Bruins lost 57-60 to the Royals earlier this season and aimed to even the series at home. This game had a post-season feel with high intensity from the jump ball. There were several lead changes, but Johnson University left the first quarter with a 19-14 lead. The second quarter was much of the same, but the Bruins stayed within striking distance at the half down 37-42. Carolina University came out of the half re-energized and used their defense to spark a flurry. The Bruins were able to build their lead to as many as 6, and took a 59-58 edge into the fourth quarter. Carolina University looked in control of the fourth and maintained a lead throughout. The Bruins sealed the game with free throws to earn the 80-75 victory.
Carolina University had an extremely balanced attack on the night with 5 different Bruins reaching double-figures in scoring.
Ayana Collins looked dominant with her 16 point and 11 rebound double-double.
Jada Sleet contributed a game-high 20 points. Taza Hardin was excellent as she stuffed the stat sheet. Hardin scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished 5 assists, and had a game-high 5 steals.
Malayah Montgomery scored 12 and
Caliyana White scored 10 off the bench.
The Bruins moved to 8-4 on the season and will next play Bob Jones University on Saturday, February 20th in Greenville, SC. Carolina University beat BJU each of the previous two meetings this season.
