WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- CU Baseball took on St. Andrews University for the second game of a double-header on Sunday, February 21st. The Knights won the first game of the day, but the Bruins looked to split the series. St. Andrews scored 3Â in the first, but Carolina University answered back with 4 runs of their own. However, the second inning got away from the Bruins as they gave up 6 runs and couldn't recover. The Knights would go on to win the game 19-5.
Kaleb Whitaker (1-2) earned the start for the Bruins and was able to record 2 strikeouts, but gave up 4 earned runs. At the plate, John Giboyeaux hit his 3rd homerun of the year and recorded 2 RBI's. Additionally, Abdiel Santana-Carrasquillo went 1 for 2 and stole 2 bases. Designated hitter, Logan Conklin, also went 1 for 2 and drew 2 walks. Despite the tough start, Charlee Edwards did provide some excellent relief work when he took the mound. Edwards recorded 5 strikeouts across 2 and â…“ innings while only giving up 1 run.
Carolina University fell to 3-4 after the day, but have a great opportunity this weekend. The Bruins will host Bluefield State College for a 3 game series starting with 1 game on Friday the 26th and a double-header on Saturday, February 27th.
