GREENVILLE, SC -- Carolina University Men's Basketball renewed their rivalry with Bob Jones University on Monday, February 15th. This was a highly anticipated NCCAA contest with large implications for each team as they battled for an opportunity to play in the post-season. Bob Jones University scored first and maintained an early lead. Around the 10 minute mark
Maurice Peyton Jr. drilled a 3-pointer and gave CU a 22-21 lead. This sparked an 11-0 run for Carolina University and put them in the drivers' seat. The lead grew to as many as 11 in the first half, but BJU was able to close the gap before halftime. Carolina University took the 41-36 advantage into the break. CU was in control of the second half and built the lead to 22 with about 9 minutes remaining. BJU was able to gain some ground, but it wasn't enough. Carolina University responded with some huge plays including a lob dunk from Benjamin to Ofoegbu to clinch the game. CU would win comfortably with a final score of 92-76.
Carolina University had mismatches inside and their starting forwards took advantage.
Kester Ofoegbu lead all scorers with 28 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Dillon Voyles notched a new career-high with the Bruins as he scored 21 points.
Micah Cooper was also in double-figures with 14 points.
Maurice Peyton Jr. was able to score 11 points off the bench for the Bruins.
Carolina University will now host Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Saturday, February 20th. This will be the third meeting of the Bruins and Mustangs this season. The Bruins split the first two games which were both played in Elizabeth City. Carolina University hopes to defend home court and win the season series against MACU.
