VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Carolina University Men's Basketball Team traveled to play at NCCAA DI South Regional opponent, Regent University, on Saturday, October 30th. While the Bruins entered the game at 1-1, this would be the 2021-2022 season opener for the Royals. This game was early in the season, but it had all the feeling of a Regional game in the first half. The Royals and Bruins traded baskets and the lead throughout the first half. Neither team was able to break the game open, and in fact they entered the locker rooms tied at 34-34. Carolina University chose to stay the course and were rewarded. The Bruins took the lead and within 8 minutes found themselves up double-digits. That lead would be something that CU would grow to as many as 20, and never relinquish. The Bruins would go on to earn the win by a final score of 78-60.
The Bruins were led by a monster performance from
Kester Ofoegbu. Ofoegbu led all participants with 26 points and 10 rebounds on an impressive 11-15 shooting with 2 triples.
Micah Cooper was also incredibly efficient with 22 points on 70% shooting from the field.
Andrue Aguilera and
Najeem Nawabi were vital back-court members and made a living beyond the arc. Aguilera dropped in 4 threes and Nawabi was 2-3 from distance.
Carolina University improves to 2-1 with the win and 1-0 in NCCAA play. The Bruins will face a test in Laurinburg, NC on Wednesday, November 3rd when they play at St. Andrews University. The Knights are a member of the NAIA Appalachian Athletic Conference. This will be the first game of the season for SAU and will tip-off at 7:00PM.Â
