LAURINBURG, NC -- Carolina University Men's Basketball was on the road to play against NAIA St. Andrews University on Wednesday, November 3rd. The Bruins were winners of back-to-back games and were ready for the challenge against SAU. This game was the season opener for the Knights, but it didn't look that way early. St. Andrews University built a lead as large as 8 to open the game. However, the Bruins settled down and slowly chipped away and even found themselves up 35-30 going into halftime. The second half started off with some back and forth play, but CU turned the corner with about 12 minutes remaining. The Bruins pushed the lead to double-digits and made the necessary plays down the stretch to finish the job. Carolina University would beat St. Andrews by a final score of 85-72.
The Bruins were able to win the game in large part due to their interior play.
Kester Ofoegbu was incredible with an 18 point-13 rebound double-double and lead all players in total rebounds and in offensive rebounds with 7.
Latrelle Standifer rose to the challenge with a game-high 20 points and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Standifer did most of his work in the painted area and shot over 50% from the field.
Micah Cooper and
Andrue Aguilera gave some perimeter support with 13 points and 14 points respectively.
Carolina University (3-1) will continue this road stretch on Monday, November 8th when they travel to Charlotte, NC to play Johnson & Wales University. The Bruins and Wildcats will tip-off at 8:00PM.
