GREENVILLE, SC -- Carolina University Women's Basketball traveled to take on Bob Jones University on Tuesday, January 19th. CU was looking to get back on track and really showed that in the 1st Quarter.
Ayana Collins led the charge with 6 points and 4 rebounds in the 1st to give CU a 21-9 lead. Nothing is ever over in a rivalry game though, and BJU crawled their way back into this one. By the end of the 3rd Quarter the Carolina University's lead had shrunk to just 3. Coach Lee was able to rally the defense in the 4th Quarter to win this one 57-51.
After his first win as the Interim Head Coach, Coach Lee was really proud of the defensive effort and the growth within the team. "Overall, I feel we performed well...We continued to play hard even with our post players reaching foul trouble. This unit showed a lot of heart late in the final quarter. I'm proud of the strides that we are making on a daily basis." Carolina University is ranked #1 in the Nation in Scoring Defense by a wide margin. CU is allowing just 44.5 points per game and is able to control the game as a result. Offensively, CU was led by
Jada Sleet in this one. She led all scorers with 20.
Ayana Collins added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Malayah Montgomery was also in double-figures with 11 points.
Carolina University improved to 5-3 after this victory. CU will play next on February 4th when they host Voorhees College.
