Women's Basketball Falls on the Road

KNOXVILLE, TN -- The Carolina University Women's Basketball Team opened up their second semester slate on the road against Johnson University (TN). The Bruins were led for the first time by Interim Head Coach Quanté Lee. CU hadn't played a game since November 23rd and were eager for the opportunity to compete. The 1st Quarter was a back and forth affair, but the Royals took a 13-12 edge into the 2nd. Again the teams traded scores and the lead changed multiple times. However, at halftime there was no net change as Johnson University held a 1-point advantage. The Bruins offense came alive in the 3rd Quarter. With a flurry of points, many in transition, CU was able to build the lead as large as 5. The Bruins were able to carry a 2-point lead into the 4th. Carolina University again had success early pushing the lead to 6, but Johnson University would not go away. The Royals closed out the game with 6 straight made FT's and secured the 60-57 victory.

Despite the loss, there are a lot of positives for the Bruins. Jada Sleet led the team with 18 points, but all 9 Bruins that checked into the game scored. Additionally, Ni'Jaa Wells and Tazah Hardin surpassed double-digit rebounds with 11 and 10 respectively. Carolina University moved to a 4-3 record after the game, and will look to get the first win of 2021 against rival, Bob Jones University, on Tuesday, January 19th. Additionally, the Bruins will host the Royals for a rematch of this game on February 19th.
