Greenville, SC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer Team opened up the 2020 campaign at rival Bob Jones University on Saturday, September 19th. Head Coach of CU, Craig Golding, had prepared his team for what was sure to be a competitive match. Bob Jones University is an NCCAA opponent and entered the match 1-0-0 after a 9-0 victory in their opener. Despite the offensive potential of BJU, Carolina University hung their hat on the defensive end. Bob Jones was able to put just 5 of their 9 total shots on goal and all were saved by Jeremiah Gibbs. Carolina University battled with counters, but the match remained frozen at 0-0 well into the second half. With less than 10 minutes remaining, CU was able to use that defense to spark a transition run. Forward Francisco Tapia successfully converted an assist by Mario Salinas for the game winner in the 83rd minute.

Coach Golding was extremely proud after the match and commended his defense for playing "organized and being difficult to break down." He added that the CU defense's ability to remain dangerous on the counter was crucial to the victory. The Men's Soccer Program looks to be a defensive force moving forward. This was a great victory for Carolina University, but these two rivals will meet again. BJU will visit Carolina University on Thursday, October 29th for CU's Golden Game.

Carolina University Men's Soccer will be in action next on Saturday, October 3rd at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC. The Bruins will return home on October 10th and will host Belmont Abbey at 7:00pm.
