Lady Bruins Fall in Opening Match

BECKLEY, WV - The Carolina University Lady Bruins opened the Fall 2020 Soccer season at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley, WV. Our Bruins battled, but fell on the road by a final of 0-3. West Virginia Tech utilized the home field advantage to get out of the gates fast scoring at the 2:11 mark and again at 14:31. CU continued to play hard and had good ball control, but couldn't generate enough attack. WVUT scored their third goal of the match at the 51:13 mark and were able to hold off the late runs by Carolina University.

Despite the loss, Coach Neal was really pleased with the effort and his team's composure with the ball. Neal said, "I feel like we were better than a 3-0 score line, but credit to them for getting the goals when it mattered." Moving forward, the team is excited to have a game under their belt and to continue to improve. The coaching staff sang high praise for new-comer, Aaliyah Rubio, who was brilliant in her debut game for the Navy and Gold. Additionally, the squad is hopeful to have a few players back from injury by their next match.

West Virginia Tech (1-0) will be in action next against River States Conference opponent University of Rio Grande (Ohio) on September 26th. The CU Lady Bruins will look to bounce back against NCCAA opponent Toccoa Falls College on Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:00PM in Toccoa Falls, GA.
