PIU Goes 2-1 at Mid-Atlantic Christian

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The PIU Bruins traveled to Elizabeth City, NC, where they faced Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 14 and 15). After dropping the first game 3-9, Piedmont took both games on day two, 5-4 and 11-1.

Game One

The Bruins were the first on the board when a line drive single by Kevin Greenwood allowed Brendan Carroll to run in. After Josh Kent scored a second run for PIU, a high-powered Mustang offense started to collect back-to-back runs.

Bradley Driggers started on the hill for Piedmont, allowing one hit and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Hunter Rhineberger, Dalton Caldwell, and Michael Williams each contributed in relief.

Koda Bullard, Bryan Deegan, Daniel King, Kevin Greenwood, and Matt Tullock all had one hit.
 

Game Two

Piedmont was able to score in the second inning, as Harrison Vaughan drove in Wesley Ambrose and Greenwood. The Mustangs tied up the game in the top of the 4th, 2-2.

In the final inning, the Bruins trailed 4-3 when Kent hit a double on an 0-2 count, allowing two runs by Vaughan and Deegan. They claimed the 5-4 victory.

Nate Williams took the win for PIU as he lasted six innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two. Charlee Edwards threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last three outs to earn the save.

The Bruins tallied six hits in the game. Kent and Vaughan managed multiple hits for Piedmont.
 

Game Three

The start of the game appeared quiet between the Bruins and Mustangs, until PIU came out as an offensive powerhouse in the second, scoring five runs by Carroll, Vaughan, Martin, Ambrose, and Kent. Piedmont expanded their lead to 10, in the top of the fourth, with runs from Talon Greene, Kent, Greenwood, Carroll, and Deegan. Greenwood would close out the scoring off a hit from Tullock.

Charlee Edwards allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking one while Darin Spiveythrew two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Piedmont scattered 15 hits in the game. Ambrose, Tullock, Martin, Greenwood, and Rhineberger each collected multiple hits. Ambrose went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The Bruins were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

The Bruins will host a mid-week matchup on Tuesday (Feb. 18) verse Montreat University at 11:00 AM.
