GREENWOOD, SC - Piedmont International University Softball opened their season at Lander on February 8th and 9th, where they faced Lander University and Limestone College. The Bruins went 0-3 against the NCAA DII talent.

Game One
Piedmont opened up the weekend verse Limestone College. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when Limestone's second baseman hit a home run. Limestone would expand their lead by three runs in the bottom of the 5th, and again in the 6th by four more runs. The Bruins were unable to get on the board, ending the game 0-8.

Savanna Nobles was in the pitcher's circle first for PIU. She went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Lyric Ryan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen, yielding five runs on three hits.

Game Two
In the second game, the Bruins played the home team, Lander University. Kayli Cook, the first in the batting lineup, hit a home run to kick off the game. Unfortunately, the Bearcats would respond with two runs of their own.

In the second inning, Lander found their stride, scoring ten runs. They would score ten more at the bottom of the 4th, for a total of 22.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the 4th when the snow became too disruptive to play. The Bruins and Bearcats resumed the final inning Sunday morning. Lander took the game 22-1.

Ryan threw one inning, permitting two runs on two hits. Missy Smith came in as relief for an inning, allowing 13 runs on 12 hits. Maggie Smith wrapped up the game pitching an inning, yielding seven runs on four hits. Piedmont tallied four hits. Cook, Jessyca Cardona, Ryan, and Cybelle Murakami recorded one each.

Game Three
In the final game, PIU rematched Limestone College. Limestone was the first on the board in the 4th, tallying three runs. They would add a single run in the 5th and 6th to win 5-0.

Ryan threw five-inning, allowing four runs on five hits. Maggie Smith pitched one inning and permitted one run off two hits. Cardona, Maggie Smith, Missy Smith, and Ryan each registered a hit.

The Bruins will host their next game on Tuesday (Feb. 18) verse Bryan College. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2 PM and 4:30 PM.
