WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Carolina University Women's Basketball Team hosted Mid-Atlantic Christian University in their home-opener on Tuesday, November 10th. The Mustangs entered the contest at 1-0 after a narrow victory in their opening game. The Bruins were in search of their first win after the tough loss at Columbia International. From the tip, it was clear that Carolina University was playing with a different energy. The Bruins raced out to a 14-6 lead fueled by their defense and took a 19-11 lead into the quarter break. CU was able to find another gear in the 2nd Quarter as they dominated the glass and paint. The Bruins were plus-20 in the 2nd Quarter alone and took a commanding 47-19 lead into the half. From there, Carolina University coasted to an 81-58 victory much to the delight of the home crowd.Â
Five Bruins scored in double figures in the contest:
Mychala Wolfe (12),
Lexius Houzer (12),
Ni'Jaa Wells (10),
Ayana Collins (12), and
Arian Rumph (10). However the recipe for success for CU was the defense. Carolina University recorded 21 steals and forced 30 total turnovers. They also dominated the boards with a plus-15 rebounding margin.
Carolina University will have a quick turn-around as they host Milligan College (1-2) on Wednesday, November 11th at 6:00pm. That game will be broadcast via livestream through cubruins.com.
