COLUMBIA, SC -- Carolina University's Women's Basketball Team opened up the season on November 3rd at Columbia International University. Each group was eager to start the season with a win showed it on the court. The Bruins and the Rams traded buckets in the early going, but CIU held a 24-14 lead after the 1st Quarter. Carolina University roared back in the 2nd Quarter and took a 41-40 lead into halftime. The Lady Bruins had a strong 3rd Quarter as well and held a 4-point lead going into the fourth. The game remained tight, but it was the Rams who hung on to earn the 79-76 victory.
After the game, Head Coach 
Toccara Tatum was disappointed in the loss, but felt it was good for her team long-term. "This loss will teach us the importance of the little things like minimizing turnovers, knocking down free throws, and how to close out on a win when the opportunity is there." Coach Tatum said that this game has helped bring the team together and will it is necessary for the group to grow together. The Bruins can be proud of some individual performances as well. 
Lexius Houzer had an incredible double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. 
Jada Sleet and 
Mychala Wolfe anchored the back-court in scoring with 18 and 14 points respectively. Freshman Forward 
Ni'Jaa Wells had a great debut with 9 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. 
Carolina University will next host Mid-Atlantic Christian University (1-0) on Tuesday, November 10th. This will be the Bruins Home Opener for the season and a great opportunity to give the home crowd a win!
