WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer hosted Bob Jones University for a rivalry rematch on Thursday, October 29th. Earlier in the season, CU traveled to Greenville and beat BJU 1-0 in the final 10 minutes of the game. The rematch carried high expectations and some pressure for CU. Carolina University had earned an undefeated record entering this match and had allowed just 1 goal all season long. Bob Jones University was 6-1-1 and riding a 5 game win streak when they came to Winston-Salem. CU looked to remain perfect and BJU wanted to avenge their only loss on the season.Â
Carolina University didn't waste any time finding the back of the net this time around.
Govanni Mayas converted the
Mario Salinas assist in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 lead. With the assist, Salinas had now assisted or scored a goal in every CU game of the season. CU continued on the attack and controlled the ball for most of the first half. Entering the second half, Carolina University's strong defense helped them close out the match. BJU made some runs, but was unable to score on Goalie,
Jeremiah Gibbs. With less than 2 minutes remaining,
Jaime Rodriguez assisted
Brayan Gomez on a goal that put CU up 2-0 and effectively finished the match. Carolina University won with a final score of 2-0 and closed out the regular season with a perfect 4-0 record.Â
Carolina University will now play in the NCCAA DI South Regional Tournament on November 7th. A win will advance the Bruins to the NCCAA DI National Tournament.
